Su Kalitesi Yönetiminde Toplam Askıda Katı Maddenin (TSS) İzlenmesinin Önemi

Su kalitesi yönetimi, özellikle nehirler, göller ve okyanuslar gibi su kütleleriyle ilgili olarak çevre yönetiminin kritik bir yönüdür. Su kalitesini değerlendirmede önemli bir parametre, suda asılı parçacıkların konsantrasyonunu ifade eden Toplam Askıda Katı Maddedir (TSS). TSS seviyelerinin izlenmesi, su ekosistemlerinin korunmasından insan tüketimi için güvenli içme suyunun sağlanmasına kadar çeşitli nedenlerden dolayı gereklidir.

TSS, silt, kil, organik madde ve inorganik maddeler gibi çeşitli parçacıkları içerir. Bu parçacıklar erozyon gibi doğal kaynakların yanı sıra tarım, inşaat ve endüstriyel süreçler gibi insan faaliyetlerinden de kaynaklanabilir. Su kütlelerinde bir miktar TSS seviyesi normal olsa da, aşırı konsantrasyonlar su yaşamı ve genel su kalitesi üzerinde zararlı etkilere sahip olabilir.

TSS’yi izlemenin temel nedenlerinden biri, su ekosistemlerinin sağlığını değerlendirmektir. Yüksek seviyedeki askıda katı maddeler suyun berraklığını azaltabilir ve bu da güneş ışığının suya nüfuz etmesini engeller. Bu güneş ışığı eksikliği, su bitkilerinin ve alglerin büyümesini engelleyerek tüm besin zincirini bozabilir. Ayrıca askıdaki katı maddeler balıkların solungaçlarını tıkayarak nefes alma yeteneklerini etkileyebilir ve sonuçta balık popülasyonunun azalmasına yol açabilir.
